Naomi Novik’s new Temeraire novel, Tongues of Serpents, goes on sale next Tuesday (7/13/10). Naomi dropped into the Del Rey offices last week and spoke with us about writing the series, which has expanded to six novels since we published His Majesty’s Dragon back in 2006 and is now expected to run to nine novels total. What’s involved in writing such an extended story? How have Naomi’s characters, both human and dragon, grown and changed? Can we convince her to give us any clues to future volumes? Ahhhh! Number 15. Dang. But hey, I’m still a loyal fan, and I can’t wait to head down to my local borders to pick up “Tongues of Serpents” the second the book comes out. The last book “Victory of Eagles” was one of my favorites, and I can’t wait to see what happens. On a side note, I’d like to thank you Mrs. Novik for getting your books done in a reasonable time frame. I’m a huge fantasy fan and authors like George Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, and many others drive me crazy when it takes them five years to come out with a new book. Your books are always well written and well edited and a real breath of fresh air. Thanks!
