If you haven’t seen our introduction video explaining what’s going on with this fall’s Cage Match, then do yourself a favor and check it out.
If you’re too lazy (or…too evil?), then here’s a quick recap of what we’re asking you to do this time around:
Help us decide who the last two Villains are going to be to fight against the number 1 seed, The Nothing (from The Neverending Story) and the number 2 Sauron (from…well, do I need to tell you?).
Profiles of the ten you can vote on will be coming tomorrow (Monday, 10/11), but we figure you can get started voting now.
You can vote for up to 4 characters, who will then battle each other in two play-in games (starting Monday, October 18th), and your choices are between:
– Moriarty (from the Sherlock Holmes stories)
–The Kurgan (Highlander)
–Eric Cartman (”South Park”)
–The Wicked Witch of the West (The Wizard of Oz)
–Ming the Merciless (Flash Gordon)
–The Master (”Dr. Who”)
–Dr. Evil (Austin Powers)
–Sheriff of Nottingham (Robin Hood)
–Darken Rahl (Sword of Truth novels)
and
–A combo Starscream/Skeletor/Cobra Commander tag-team (if you’re a fan of 80’s cartoons, you’ll understand this a lot better–if not, I don’t know if we can be friends).
(If you click on the characters above, you can read their Cage Match profiles)
Again, you’re voting on the 4 characters you want to see battle it out next Monday for the right to fight in the main bracket, so make sure to click up to 4 characters before submitting your poll.
Let the worst characters win!

So when is the poll going to open?
Your pole is closed for some reason — glitch?? I am trying to publicize this to my students but with a non-working site, it’s hard to get them excited
Missing Villains
Khan Noonian Singh of Star Trek
Thulsa doom of Conan the Barbarian
Artemis Entreri of the Legend of Drizzt series
Gul Dukat of Star Trek Deep Space Nine
Q of Star Trek The Next Generation- Now here is a guy who could probably take on Sauron or the Nothing guy.
The polls should be open. Sorry if there was any inconvenience to anyone. You may need to refresh your cache, but people are voting.
Have fun!
Cartman and Moriarty need to be in this thing.
I’d totally go for Q of Star Trek: The Next Generation!
Definitely Q, moriarty, and Kahn! Personally, I’d also toss in Spiderman’s Doctor Octopus, but that’s just cause I think those arms are the bomb!
I think Moriarty can take down Sauron! Ha!
Ok so now I can vote, but it wont accept my vote. . .never registers when I click the vote button. Oh well. .I will try from home
Oohhh….Artemis Entreri of the Legend of Drizzt series would be a fabulous villain to see in a cage match.
Wouldn’t Starscream have a slight advantage considering how tall he is? Plus, how much does the dude weigh? All that metal would mean his opponent would be squished like a little bug.
Can I vote for none of them? If you’re going to put a villain in there go for a classic. Dracula.
Cartmen must be in there, i want to see him beat sauron
I really wish that suvudu would stop picking the weaker people from a sword of truth, last time they picked kahlan instead of richard and matched her against Drizt who had immunity… now they pickDarken Rahl who is nothing compared to Jagang’s powers and giant armies and sorcerers and such. I do wish that someone from the WOT was here to represent sure the DO may be too op like rand was but how about one of the forsaken?
Elfy–Dracula’s in the main bracket! He’s going up against The Mountain That Rides from A Song of Ice and Fire.
As for the the lack of WoT characters–believe me, it was a tough decision. But we defiinitely discussed including one, but at the end of the day, we thought there were other characters that created either more intriguing match-ups, we were more familiar with, or opened up the opportunity to discuss different books from the previous Cage Match.
Yes, I agree that WoT is a fantastic series, but we only had so many slots, and we couldn’t find a villian from it that we found as compelling as any of the others we’ve included (or are having you vote on). The Dark One would be great, but considering we already had some extremely powerful characters, we wanted to get the bottom of the bracket some great villains, too.
Part of the fun of working on Cage Match is not only the discussions I get to have with you guys, but the planning meetings (and arguments) I get to have with my colleagues here. I hope WoT fans will give some of these other characters a chance–who knows, you might find someone new and exciting to read (such as Joe Abercrombie, Lynn Flewelling, or China Mieville).

Sorry but that is a pitiful explanation… No offense… The Dark One is not the only villain, there are lots and lots more and they’re all intriguing and subtle ones. Moridin for example is one of the most smart villains I’ve ever read of, he knows what he’s about and what he wants to achieve and, believe me, it’s not one of the typical villain’s reasons, there’s depth and a true ideal behind all his deeds. If this doesn’t represent an intriguing and compelling fight then I don’t know what else suvudu people might wish for…
I agree with Amy, WOT has a great selection of Villans. Alot of the villans have no power what so ever, all the Darkfriends; Shaine, Kadere, or Jaichim Carridin. These are all suficently evil people with no powers at all.
Having no WOT character makes the pairings seem incomplete. It be the same as not having a aSoIaF character back. These two series made it to the finals last time, and it was epic. Now there is no chance of a re-match, you could have put it as a first round match if you didnt want to have the same final happen again.
@DP
ur explanation sucks, and so does your Logic…….I think u need and Aes Sedai Advisor from White Ajah.
We have been waiting from end of last cage Maches for the new cage macth….u ruined it by not including the WoT character in it..
well u can MAKE IT UP BY
PUTIING THE WINNER OF CAGE MATCH 2 AGAINST WINNER OF LAST CAGE MATCH(Rand Al’Thor)
this is how u will give us WoT fans to participate in the contest …..and give the Winner of Cage Matches 2 to prove him self…..every one will agree to it.
Bane’s got my vote.
IS TRUE THAT WOT HAVE ALOT OF VILLIANS BUT NONE OF THEM GOT THE FULL RANDS ATENTION EVEN THE FORSAKEN ARE JUST AN INCONVENIENT FOR HIM, THE ONLY THAT CAN BE THE EVIL CHARACTER IS THE DARK ONE BUT BE REALISTIC THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN HANDLE HIM IS THE CREATOR NOT EVEN RAND CAN KILL HIM (HE MUST SEALED HIM) SO IF THE DARK ONE ENTERS THE CAGE MATCH HE WILL BE THE WINNER ALREADY…. IS LIKE PUTTING YAWGMOTH OF MAGIC THE GATHERING BOOK SERIES….
DONT GET MAD AT ME I REALLY LOVE WOT BUT IS NOT FAIR FOR THE OTHERS TINY VILLIANS THAT ARE IN THE CAGE MATH XD
LET THE DRAGON RIDE AGAIN IN THE WINDS OF TIME.
Hey could you please add a WoT character?
What changed this year?
WoT FTW!!
hey suvudu people i agreewith Shadow’sbane
thanks for the support People of the Dragon
What y delete our comments…..?
whats this?
Y is site not working prperly…some times i seethe comments some times not ?
Your comments are there–just not the repeated ones (or the apologies). They haven’t been deleted (although you may not see them sometimes, because you need to clear out your cache on your browser every so often).
As for WoT–I can’t add a character to the Cage Match, and to be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t regardless. I think my explanation is more than adequate: we wanted to use other characters. We didn’t want to use a WoT villain. That’s pretty much it. It’s not a slight against The Wheel of Time, but rather that we had other ideas of what we wanted to do in this Cage Match, and it didn’t include a WoT villain. I’m sorry, but sometimes I have to make editorial decisions (amazingly, that’s my job).
That said–I am intrigued by your suggestion for a Cage Match 2010 winner versus a Cage Match–Villains! winner, and I will definitely consider it for the end of the year.
If you do wish to debate any or all our choices, obviously feel free to keep commenting, but we’ve also set up a forum that you can add to, here:

No one has deleted your comments, Shadow’s Bane.
I for one am quite pleased with the villains picked. Not all villains can be picked; there are simply too many of them. I could easily get angry that there are no villains from some of my favorite books, but I also understand there is finite space. It happens. Calling people at Suvudu names isn’t going to help things, nor is spamming the comment section.
Personally, there isn’t a character in WoT that matches up against these villains. The Dark One? Yeah, we already have Sauron in the match. To have two Sauron’s would be a waste of a spot. If Sauron wins the Cage Match, you WoT members can revel that your villain won.
If I was to choose a WoT villian character to fight, to make it fair on the others, I wouldn’t choose the D O, no competition there. But I would like to see how the other’s would match up against our Peddler……. Padan Fain!!! ;o)
I cannot believe the ‘reason’ given for excluding WoT villains! I do not believe you have even read the series!
” …we couldn’t find a villian from it that we found as compelling as any of the others we’ve included” ???
There are 13 compelling and complex Forsaken and that is just for a start! Padan Fain!! There is no villain like him! And most of the Darkfriends in the series are more ‘compelling’ than some of the other characters that DID make the cut! It is such an insult to WoT fans and Robert Jordan himself!
So what you are saying is WoT characters are more important than other series characters. Got it. I understand you are passionate and you have every right to be. But the fact remains we have limited spaces for the Cage Match and we can’t make everyone happy. Hopefully another WoT character will be used in the Cage Match after this one.
We didn’t say WoT characters are more important than others, we did say WoT villains are more compelling and interesting than many of the villains you chose. Maybe you should read the series before judging characters you don’t even know…
Ah, I agree with Bane’s proposal. Let the winner of this cage match fight against Rand!
Well, I’m not arguing about who’s included (I’m pretty happy to see Moriarty make the cut, though I’m not sure how long he’ll last, or would last were he to actually meet any of these villains). But, having just finished reading Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, I kinda wish Mr. Vandemar and Mr. Croup were included. I think they—and for those not familiar with the book, they’re two characters who work as one—would/could do some damage.
So…if you haven’t read Neverwhere, then you’re missing out on some interesting, greasy, and diabolical villains. Just sayin’.
above all these series we prefer WoT the best
……u have to read it to know why ….u cant just read the summary from the Wikipedia or the summary at the back of the books and say that ‘’series does not have good character” thats totally stupid.
@shawn
Did any of ur ”favourite series character” Win the Cage match….?…
Rand Won
then whats the meaning of not including character from series that Won the Last match..?
And u say that that ” none of the WoT villians matches up with the above villians”
do u even know WoT villians ,if not then ****.
u say tht Sauton is Equivalent to the DO
LOL
Sauron is just a thumb sucking kid in front of DO…
basically if DO enters there is know one that can win against him…….But the Do isnt the only villian in WoT
……there are 13 Forsaken…known to Kill, torture, tens of thousands of people in War of Shadow
Semiherage—tortured so many people soo much that they begged for death
demandred—feed entire city’s population to Trollocs
messana—made an army of childern by brain washiing them
and so on …
then there are Gho’lams
created by shadow, boneless, ten times as strong as humans, immune to magic, feed on fresh blood.
then there is Padan Fain
barely human consumed by two evils…
and u say that there are no Good villians in WoT….?

sorry about the language……i will make sure it wont hppen again
but that comment frm Shawn was insulting……i got angy….but still i m sorry.
as there is a saying in india….” majboori main Gadhe ko bhi baap banana padta hai.”
O:-)
While I understand that there are limited spaces for these supposed villains, I would have thought that the sheer number of votes that Rand rec’d in the previous cage match would have spurred you to add a WoT character for this one. It is not that we WoT fanatics think that our beloved characters are better, it is just that Robert Jordan was able to create a work of fiction that goes so much deeper than any other story I’ve come across. His characters have so much to add to these virtual fights. It is just so disappointing. I am very sorry Shawn Speakman that you feel that way about the WoT villains. Do you even know the villains from this incredible tale? And saying if Sauron wins we can revel? Are you joking? THAT is insulting.
I sincerely hope that you do take Shadow’sBane’s suggestion and put the winner of this round up against Rand. I am sure it would make one terrific fight.
i think u get the site problem fixed…..it happens on no other site.
i agree with Shadow’sBane praposal
and Shawn your comment is down right insulting
R u suggesting that RJ stole frm JRRT?
there are no similarities between Sauron and DO..s
I agree with you Chris, anyone who says Sauron and the DO are the same know nothing about Middle Earth or Randland
U included Bender from futurama,is he more compelling enough to be included in the cage matches?
man the standard of these Matches are going Down,in the nwxt match u might choose Dr.Doofishsmirtz from Phineas and Ferb or Mr Kat from Kid vs Cat, or even Tom from Tom and Jerry.
I am down for Tom! That cat would own these brackets!
@ Chosen
LOL
seeing some of the villians in this Match,i totally agree with u
@Chris: I agree with you too. Sauron and DO are not the same and whoever says that probably have never read neither RJ nor Tolkien -.-
Much thanks for taking Shadow’sBane’s idea. I am very grateful for the chance to stand behind Rand once again.
