It’s time for you to vote!
I have not read these books. In November you all forced me to read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It was as remarkable and enjoyable as I knew it would be. You all made an excellent choice and my review for that book will be coming soon.
Now it’s time for you to work your magic again and choose what I will read next!
Here are the choices:

All of the books in this poll have a commonality. I haven’t read them. Since my book is out the door with several publishers, I have a lot of time on my hands in the next few weeks, time I can finally catch up on my reading piles!
And what better way than to have you all pick what book I read! Why? Because it’s fun.
These are the books I feel are most pressing for me to read. You pick!
The poll closes Monday, January 10th! Comments below are welcome. Let me know what you chose and why. Argue with each other if you must.
Thanks for your help! I’ll review each book on Suvudu after reading them.
Cheers!

Ooh, good, they like Storm Front for a second choice, just like me! Are you in the middle of the Novik books? Wouldn’t you want to go through those before you start another series? If not, wouln’t you prefer to start with His Majesty’s Dragon?

Ugh..these are all such excellent choices! The Warded Man and Black Powder War are really excellent, and Storm Front is the first book in one of my favorite series of all time…but I had to vote for The Lies of Locke Lamora. I picked that up on a whim and it really didn’t have any great expectations – and it absolutely blew me away. The characters are deep and the world is totally unique and a bit familiar at the same time. Really, really recommended for you to put on your list even if it doesn’t win the poll!
Jim Butchers Dresdin Files is fun and a light read…I enjoy them very much. His other series, Alera Chronicles, which is a traditional fantasy was very different and very good as well. Peter V. Brett’s The Warded Man was excellent. I did not like his follow-up nearly as well.
I have not read any of the others.
Laura, I am in the middle of reading Naomi’s series. Black Powder is next on the list. I might just continue on and finish the other three books as they are relatively short, or read something else after. That’s up to you guys.
Conductor, I think Lies came in second last poll? Can’t remember, but I’m pretty sure it did. I’ve read the first 50 pages or so once upon a time and then something else came out I wanted to read more. So it’s time I get back there. Up to you all.
2short, thanks for the suggestion. I keep waiting for the cultish hordes of Butcher to swamp the poll! haha
I’m torn between recommending The Warded Man and Lies of Locke Lamora. They are both FABULOUS books. Not a StarWars reader, but I have the other 3 just haven’t read them yet. If you’ve already given Locke Lamora a start, you need to get back to it. But keep Warded Man high on your to-read list!
Go for the Dresden Files… it’s the Rockford Files meets Harry Potter if Harry was American and broke. But BETTER.
(Not dissing Naomi Novik, though–but read His Majesty’s Dragon first, if you haven’t. She comes in a very close second to Jim Butcher [and he is a fan of hers].)
You have a great list of books to choose from, but I’m going to have to go out on a limb and recommend another book. My favorite sci-fi of 2010 was a book by Leonid Korogodski called Pink Noise: A Posthuman Tale. It’s a prose poem in disguise. Even when it touches upon science! The language is so compelling, I simply had to follow, even though I don’t really read science fiction all the time, it was one of the best books I’ve read in a long while
Read Storm Front and I’ll read it with you. I have it in my pile, just haven’t gotten to it yet (I’m finishing up with Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series.)
After The Name of the Wind, you need something light and fun but still kicks ass. Dresden, baby, Dresden. After Linda Hamilton’s books became soft porn, I was looking for urban fantasy that was just that — urban fantasy. Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files delivered in spades. I read the Black Powder Wars — the last of that series I read. I found I didn’t care about the characters. Harry and his supporting cast I care about. Go Team Dresden!
Bobb said it; you need something light and fun and Dresden fits that. I’d go for Lies of Locke Lamora after that
Definitely read The Warded Man! great world and in depth characters
