The Wiles of Signing Books

As many of you know, I own The Signed Page, a website devoted to helping people get signed and personalized books for cover price. It is fulfilling business to own. I help people grow their signed book collections without being gouged by the secondary market, and I have the opportunity to meet some of the best writers in the business.

On March 1st, author Patrick Rothfuss will be stopping by to sign almost two thousand copies of The Wise Man’s Fear for people all over the world.

I can already feel the discs in my back painfully separating from one another.

While I love my job and it can be rough on the body at times, it’s nothing compared to writers when they tour. Sleeping in a new hotel every night. Passing through airport security numerous times. Meeting and trying to remember every bookseller you meet. Speaking in front of people night after night until you go hoarse. After three weeks, it can be tough.

Some authors also add massive, hand-debilitating signing stops—at the publisher, at book distributors, and for specialty stores like The Signed Page.

A few weeks ago, Pat finished signing 3000 books at his publisher:

I’m really looking forward to next week. It will be nice to have Pat over again and to shoot the shyte but it’s great knowing he and I have raised over $5000.00 for Heifer International. Gives me that warm fuzzy feeling all over. And of course helping all of those people around the world get signed copies of The Wise Man’s Fear isn’t a bad feeling either.

More next week. Photos. Video. Pained back.

Time to nut up or shut up.

Get ready.
