Exclusive Short Story: Peter Orullian

The Unremembered by Peter OrullianTerry Brooks has been a bestselling author from the outset, a time period that spans more than three decades. While he curmudgeonly hates realizing how much time has passed, his long status as a writer of some respect has afforded him the opportunity of meeting a great many wonderful people he now calls friends.

I would know. I am proof of that. And now you all have to put up with me. Ha!

I’m not the only one Terry took pity on though. Peter Orullian is also one of Terry’s friends. You may recognize the name if you’ve read Bearers of the Black Staff; two elf brothers bear that last name, a name Terry loved and asked permission to use. Peter is not only the basis for a Shannara last name though. He is a debut fantasy author whose first book, The Unremembered, was published earlier this week.

Terry read it a year ago. Here is what he had to say about the book:

“A sprawling complex tale of magic and destiny that won’t disappoint its readers. This auspicious beginning for author Peter Orullian will have you looking forward to more.” — Terry Brook

Here are a few other blurbs from some names you might recognize:

“This is one huge, compelling, hard-hitting story. A major fantasy adventure.” — Piers Anthony

“The Vault of Heaven is great fantasy. It grips you and shows you true friendship, strange places, and heroes growing to confront world-shaking evil. Magnificent! I want more!” — Ed Greenwood

“A vast canvas filled with thought-provoking ideas on the questions of good and evil that engage us all.” — Anne Perry

Brandon Sanderson also read the book and loved it but his blurb came in too late. It will be featured on the paperback release of the book, I am told. If you know Brandon he has a pretty high bar to meet before he blurbs, which speaks to the strength of The Unremembered.

Those of you who have followed Terry’s work and life know he does not give blurbs away. They must be earned, no matter the relationship established. He truly enjoyed The Unremembered. It speaks to Peter’s writing and storytelling ability because as I said, Terry doesn’t blurb just anyone.

In short, if you like epic fantasy, definitely try The Unremembered.

When Peter thanked Terry for his blurb, Terry offered additional help if Peter wanted it, namely help getting the word out about the book. Peter thought it would be fun to post something exclusive on Terry’s website, to give you all a taste of how he writes and the world he has created. Terry agreed.
