Sub Press: Indomitable by Terry Brooks

Every once in a while, I connect people who otherwise wouldn’t be.

Such is the case with author Terry Brooks and Bill Schafer of the the specialty publisher Subterranean Press. Bringing them together has its roots in Terry’s fan base. I have been his webmaster for more than a decade, and I’ve seen many questions come in, some of them suggesting great ideas. One of those ideas I get asked about several times a month deals with Indomitable, the short story featured in the Legends II anthology.

For years, fans have been asking if Indomitable would be released as its own book, separate from its anthology. All of the Shannara stories have been released as hardcovers but Indomitable was not given that treatment on its own. Since fantasy fans have a tendency to be completists when it comes to their book collections—and Terry’s fans are no exception—I decided something had to be done.

Enter Bill Schafer. Bill happens to be one of my best customers on The Signed Page, like me a true fan of signed books. He also drives the business at Subterranean Press. The publisher does some amazing work with their limited and signed editions and they are usually gorgeous, with full color plates and beautiful layouts. I knew Terry’s fans would be happy if Sub Press published a lone version of Indomitable.

Well, it is coming September 2011!

We’re pleased to announce this special edition of Terry Brooks’ novella, Indomitable, which will feature a full color dust jacket, eight full page black and white illustrations, as well as three additional full color illustrations exclusive to the Signed Limited Edition. All of the artwork is already in hand, and the book has been fully designed and proofread.

Terry is super excited about this release as are his fans, so much so the print runs are almost sold out! Roughly fifty copies of the limited edition are still available for reservation while more than two thirds of the trade printing are spoken for. There’s a very good chance that Sub Press won’t have copies to supply to our wholesale and large online retail accounts.

Which means these are going to do well on the secondary market, just like the Sub Press novellas by Peter V. Brett!
