One of the new additions I’ve installed on the Terry Brooks website is the ability to follow his reviews on Goodreads. He gets asked what he’s reading all of the time—on the road, in online chats, on Ask Terry, and on Facebook—and we thought it would be a great thing to start posting what he’s reading along with his answers.
What did Terry read last month? The Magician King by Lev Grossman!
Here is Terry’s review:
“My book recommendation this month is The Magician King by Lev Grossman. It is the sequel to The Magicians, which came out a couple years ago. I loved that one, and I loved this one, too. It is a complex, wrenching story of magic and magicians in our world who find a kingdom called Fillory, which was written about in fiction books and thought imaginary. But it is real, and it is both wonderful and very dangerous. Magician King Quentin and Queen Julia are faced with a quest of self-discovery and purpose that proves life-changing for both. The story has been called Harry Potter for adults, and that is a pretty accurate description. What I liked best about it, if I had to pick one thing, was the way the author handled the question of what it takes to be a hero and what sort of price you have to pay. He was spot on, in my opinion.”
There you have it. Terry is fairly discriminatory when it comes to what he reads and what he lauds, so it’s safe to say that The Magician King is a great book.
Hope you find out for yourself!
Until next month!
