The word for Round 2 seems to be “shenanigans!”
I’m sorry if there’s been some issues, but for the most part, I think everything has worked out pretty much A-OK. Why do I think that? Because we’re here to have fun, that’s why.
But what were the issues? In the beginning, I know some people were worried because Rachel Morgan jumped out to such a commanding lead. Well, please realize that the amazing Kim Harrison rallied her fans to support Rachel, and that’s why they came out in such force.
Then we had the problem of Caine and Zaphod actually being tied! The voting went into overtime, and Zaphod took it in the end, continuing his, ahem, improbable streak towards the championship.
The biggest issue, though, was about the Tyrion/Ray Lilly fight. I know the polls say that Tyrion won, but the fact is the polls got left open later than they should have due to a glitch in the polling software. That said, we noted the actual tally from 5 pm, and Ray Lilly had clearly won. As such, Suvudu is calling Ray the winner, and he has the privilege of facing Kelsier in Round 3.
Once again we got some great write-ups from Brent Weeks, Lev Grossman, Paul S. Kemp, Harry Connolly, Stacia Kane, and Matt Stover. Thanks!

Shenanigans. Pure Shenanigans.
Zaohod vs. Saphira: I’M PSYCHED.
BEEBLEBROX 2012!!!! (until the finale, when he will lose to Kylar Stern. I mean he’s killed Gimli AND Harry Potter!)

Kelseir
Revan

and
Moirine/Kelseir VS Rake/Saphira in semis!!!
and
I really really Hope RAKE/Saphira VS NAepolean(Lein) for Finals…
or may be Granny Weatherwx VS Moiraine Damodred Finals
Moiraine FTW.
Ray Lilly fans cheat their way to another victory. Bravo, I admire your free time and dedication.
@Barabba
I rallied my friends to vote Ray, but I’m not a fan. Never even read the series, in fact. Why? Because I want someone to win from skill, not mass voting. Tyrion has almost nothing to help him but fanboys, and that shouldn’t count for anything. Ray really would have won that match.
Besides, that will mean an easier Kelsier victory next round.
@suvudu people
Can you PLEASE do a popular demand match in the off season? PLEASE?
Also, no more overpowered characters in cage match. I don’t mean no Mistborn, I mean no more Anomander Rake or Rand al’Thor. At least put them in their own tournament. It isn’t fair to the weaker characters when someone who can destroy a world comes in and kills them. Not fair at all.
Shenanigans doesn’t begin to describe it!
I’m not sure if Zaphod or Ray Lilly is getting more ridiculous wins. I’ll be voting for Saphira and Kelsier in Round 3.
I think it’s perfectly reasonable to put in all-powerful characters, so long as they don’t happen to be very well-known. It helps get the story out there. Now it IS blatently unfair to have all-powerful popular characters like Rand in there. What they need to do is find interesting but sort of obscure powerful guys. Someone like Cayal, the Immortal Prince, who is immortal and all-powerful but very bored so he keeps trying to figure out how he can die. I imagine a write-up woud be something like:
“Do your worst,” Cayal said in a very hopeful tone.
The giant spider Ungoliant started munching on his arm with relish. This went on for quite a while, Cayal screaming in agony as his constantly regrowing arm kept being eaten, but eventually Ungoliant gorged herself to bloatation and she exploded.
Alternatively, they could put all the all-powerful characters on one side of the bracket next year, seeding them accordingly, and all the weaklings on the otherside, so instead of one big bracket with one ranking system, you’ve got two half-brackets with their own rankings, and the winners of each side face off in the end: the most powerful of the all-powerful dudes and the most popular or most canniving of the weaklings. I like that option.
Well, my bracket is ruined…I had Tyrion and Tomas in the finals…oops. The runners-up were Erevis Cale and Anomader Rake and they’re both still in so I guess my original bronze medal match has become my finals now! Go Erevis!
Also, the comments system isn’t working for me..nothing new is showing up. Is this happening for anyone else?
I’m actually really pleased Tyrion didn’t make it. I think his popularity was all that was standing in the way of his immediate defeat in the last round, and it’s primarily because of the HBO series.
I am, however, a bit vexed about the Fool/Granny match. The write-up was a bit of a let-down, and I think the satirical way it was written predisposed people unfamiliar with both series to vote for Granny. Oh well, I guess we’ll see how she does against a dragon with a midget (and MAN I wish the Fool had won because he could have gotten Girl-On-A-Dragon to help him out!)
Well, at least I don’t have to worry about Tyrion taking the whole thing on fan-power now, even if I have to miss the mastermind vs. mastermind of him against Kelsier.
Man, everyone’s brackets must have been thrown for the loop. I remember that four of them favored Tyrion to win the whole thing, and another favored Atticus. All out the window now!
I suffered some pretty nasty defeats here as well . . . only 11 out of 16 predictions correct. Well, at least Rake, Moiraine, Kelsier, and Revan are still in the game.
Next round, Zaphod, Bast, Jardir, Lilly, and Mr. Wednesday are going DOWN!
@Rose
Yes, they can use more obscure ones, but no people that can kill everyone with a thought. I am currently reading WoT and MBotF, among other series, so I’m not complaining about them doing well, but I’d rather have someone like King Leck in. Leck is a Graceling, someone with abilities past a normal human, and has one gray eye. This is signifigant because his other eye was red, as Gracelings have different colored eyes. His Grace is that people belive what ever he says; only one person has been shown to resist this. Other than that, he has no supernatural abilities.
I never filled out my brackets, but I expected Kellhus to win first round. Other than that, not suprised by any characters making it this far.
@D.I. Waisanen
The next round is perfect for the matchup I want to see in the quarter-finals. I’m planning on Saphira versus Rake, Dragon versus Dragon. Expect me to vote against Bast, Lilly, Jardir, and Rachel. Bast and Zaphod so I can see Saphira versus Rake, Jardir because a spear weilder should not kill a giant metal dragon (Havemercy was probably the only character in the brackets who could have a chance against Moiraine,due to being non-organic), and Rachel because I want to see Cale move on. I was partially responsible for Tyrions defeat, as I rallied my friends to get rid of him (He has no power of his own, and he is somehow allowed to bring hundreds of warriors to fight for him? How is that fair?), but I am voting for Kelsier next round. Besides, I didn’t want to see a full Mistborn captured to be used as leverage against him, that wouldn’t be possible.
@Barabba Ray Lilly has less press than Tyrion does but he still mananged to win. It doesnt matter if people voted for him just because they didnt want Tyrion to win, the fact is that people voted for Ray and that is what you are really pissed about. So dont accuse us Ray fans of cheating. Besides a Ray vs Kelsier match is going to be way more interesting than a Tyrion match. Also he/she who is quick to point the blame probably is feeling guilty about something themselves.
Ah, it was a good round…and my predictions didn’t suffer too much, (I was expecting Caine, Atticus, Tyrion [if only due to the past history in these cage matches with ASOIAF characters], Tomas, Iorek and Jonathan to win) Hopefully my predictions for the final match-up (Rake vs. Weatherwax) will come through
Apparently, no one was too concerned that the only character with the chops to go against Rake was defeated by Zaphod Beeblebrox in the first round. I still say there should be a tournament for characters like Sparhawk that lost the popular vote.
Kylar Stern and Jardir are still in it baby! Can’t wait to see them go to the top!
Everis all the way baby. Paul he is gonna do you proud.
OMG Erevis. Poor speling. *throws himself n sword*
@Bryce
Sorry, but Jardir is going out this round. He has to go up against Moiraine Damodred, who is a Wheel of Time character, Channeler, and has a large fanbase. Besides, A Channeler is not a demon, so Jardir will have a VERY hard time.
If he somehow manages to beat Moiraine, he will then have to go up against Kelsier, who is a full Mistborn, and also has a large fanbase. There are only four characters I could see beating Kelsier; Moiraine (maybe), Anomander Rake (but he can kill anyone here with a finger poke), Revan (again, only maybe), and Erevis Cale (only because of Weaveshear).
I’m rooting for a Kylar V Kelsier final. They can both do it!
A little confused about the reported results above… the reported results in the post above for the Tyrion vs Ray Lilly match seem to show Tyrion in the lead…
Also: Jardir’s most recent conquest, Havemercy, seems to be missing in the post above.
Otherwise, greatly enjoying the Cage Match this year. I am looking forward to two of my current predictions for week 4 (just based on how the matches have been going): Zaphod Beeblebrox vs Anomander Rake, and Granny Weatherwax vs Mr. Wednesday.
Cale 2012
Saphira vs. Zaphod? Moiraine vs. Jardir? Napoleon(On a Dragon) vs. Weatherwax? Darn you, Suvudu, for forcing me to choose! Darn you into your own tournament!!!
so the only characters that I knew stood a chance against Anomander Rake have been defeated. Whithout Tomas or Sparhawk, the victory is almost handed to Anomander on a silver platter.
that is of cours if we keep popularity out of play, and only vote fair.
since that hasn’t happened yet in this tournament, I have no idea how this will come to end…
Well Kelsier, Kylar and Moiraine are still in the game and I hope they all win their round 3 matches! But omg seriously idk who i’d vote for if they were up against any of the other. My money is on Kylar -he has killed Gimli and Harry Potter- so yay! The rallying of the Brent Weeks fanclub on facebook to vote may have something to do with that, not to mention Brent’s hilarious write ups. :3
Again WHY is Zaphod still in this?!?!
Well, here’s to hopin that kylar loses *takes a drink*
I think, somehow, Suduvu are introducing characters with the clear intention of removing them, then panicking when those characters lose. They really want someone completely underpowered/unpopular to win.
