Epic fantasy series Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson is quickly coming to its conclusion in early 2013!
I don’t have to talk too much about it. Anyone and everyone who has read fantasy at any point in the last twenty years knows about the Wheel of Time. It has more than a dozen novels and has one of the largest readerships in the history of the genre. A Memory of Light, the final book, is being edited right now. It will be a long process to ensure that the book is as great as it possibly can be.
But that doesn’t stop the other machinery at Tor Books from turning. Marketing is being finalized for the book. Publicity tour stops thought of. And of course, cover art to be completed. When Darrell K. Sweet, who illustrated the entire series, passed away unexpectedly before finishing the final book’s cover, Tor Books had to find someone who could paint a beautiful cover and yet still pay homage to Sweet.
Artist Michael Whelan is one of the best at what he does. He has won numerous Hugo awards. Tor Books selected Whelan to paint the cover for A Memory of Light. That cover has now been released. Click HERE to see how Michael’s artwork evolved from concept to finished piece!
Of course, I love what Whelan has done! What do you think?
This is one of those wonderful days in the genre, a day in fantasy history that doesn’t come along very often. The cover for the final book of arguably the best fantasy series ever. It doesn’t get better than that.
A Memory of Light by Robert Jordan & Brandon Sanderson will be available January 8, 2013!
