The new trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey:
While I believe it is a huge mistake in splitting The Hobbit into three movies—I believe you only need two to tell any extra content that exists and three pushes that incredulousity too far—I’m actually excited for the first movie. An Unexpected Journey should be the purest of the three movies, a faithful adaptation if Peter Jackson does it right. The additional material he is using won’t be featured until the last two movies.
It looks like Jackson has captured the fun feel of the book, which I’m happy about. The Hobbit is a light-hearted children’s book for the most part and some of the dialog in the trailer captures that. But there is also the growing darkness within Gandalf as he is worried what is coming in the world, as mentioned by Radagast the Brown. Definite echoes of Lord of the Rings.
What did you think of the trailer? Did it do for you what you wanted? Do you like what you see? Did it even matter? So many people’s asses are going to be in seats it likely doesn’t even matter.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be in theaters on December 14, 2012!
“What have I got in my pocket?” Bilbo said aloud.
“That isss what she said, preciousss,” Gollum replied, cackling madly.
