Poll: Do You Use Fantasy Calendars?

There are two 2013 fantasy calendars that I want to highlight.

Why? Because 2013 is right around the corner and everyone deserves beautiful art on their wall.

The fantasy calendar has a long history behind it. One of my first memories is looking at a Lord of the Rings calendar by the Brothers Hildebrandt. It was gorgeous. They caught the power and majesty of Tolkien’s world and characters, reinvigorating epic fantasy at a time right when author Terry Brooks broke into the scene and proved epic fantasy was necessary to our culture and the publishing world.

The power of the calendar. On people’s walls.

2013 sees some wonderful new additions to that tradition. A Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell. A Tolkien The Hobbit. Llewellyn’s Woodland Faeries. Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales. So many I can’t even list them here.

But two of the best are highlighted below:

A Song of Ice & Fire 2013 Calendar by George R. R. Martin and

Fans around the world are obsessed with George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, the epic that inspired HBO’s Game of Thrones. They relish the acclaimed series not only for its rich settings and unforgettable characters, but its surprising plot twists and turns. This 2013 calendar captures twelve such classic moments. Dazzlingly reimagining scenes from all five books, including the #1 New York Times bestseller A Dance with Dragons, Marc Simonetti’s atmospheric, all-original artwork will draw you into the Seven Kingdoms all year round.

12 MONTHS OF NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN PAINTINGS!

And here is the second calendar:

2013 Fantasy Pin-Up Calendar by

For our 2013 calendar, we’ve teamed up with some of the best authors in the fantasy genre: Peter S. Beagle, Ray Bradbury, Patricia Briggs, Jim Butcher, Jacqueline Carey, Neil Gaiman, Charlaine Harris, Robin Hobb, N.K. Jemisin, George R. R. Martin, Terry Pratchett, and Patrick Rothfuss.

Each month of the calendar will feature a pin-up based on a different author’s works and/or characters. Illustrated by Lee Moyer, all proceeds will go to Worldbuilders in support of Heifer International.

Such a great reason to buy a calendar! The proceeds go toward Worldbuilders, the charity foundation created by bestselling author Patrick Rothfuss. And Lee Moyer is a great artist! Here is my favorite that has been released from the calendar:

That particular piece is from Jacqueline Carey’s Kushiel series! Love it! One of the best pieces of artwork I’ve seen featuring one of her characters.

To purchase one of these—or both, for that matter, home and office anyone?—visit the links above!

Can’t wait for the year to change!

Which brings us to my poll today: Do you use fantasy calendars? Would love to hear from you guys and if you have a favorite!
