Tonight, at midnight, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to all theaters!
I know dozens of people who have already seen the movie and even more that will be seeing it at midnight. Those who have seen the movie have loved its world-building. The characters travel through Middle-earth; the sets look real. When it comes to that world, I have no doubt that Peter Jackson had complete authority to create the props and ensure his vision. And now those replicas have been reproduced for the world to enjoy.
And the Key to Erebor and Thorin’s Map are two of them!
Merchandise for the movie has been selling faster than Smaug can fly. While I love Legos and the like, I enjoy what Weta creates, being part of Peter Jackson’s empire!
Two of the merch pieces:
The map to get them to Erebor:
I love maps. Most fantasy readers do. They are concrete representations of the worlds that we come to love. Since The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are two of the greatest fantasy stories of all time, it stands to reason that people would love the maps created for them. Weta is smart to reproduce Thorin’s Map, a map drawn by Thorin’s grandfather, Thror, that allows the Dwarves in The Hobbit to attain Erebor and reclaim the gold that has been stolen.
To do that, they also need…
The Key into Erebor:
The key. The one that allows the Bilbo Baggins into the Lonely Mountain. It has been seen once in The Hobbit cartoon from the late 1970’s but here Peter Jackson and company have created an amazing prop of it. Any Middle-earth fan would love it! It is an exact replica of the key used in the movie. Click HERE to learn more!
For Gifts For the Geek, both of these might be great options. They work together and make for a wonderful double-gift.
But time is running out for these! Because people are going to love The Hobbit.
And those people might snatch these items up!
Give to the geek on your list!
