The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be in theaters in exactly one week.
Publicity for the Peter Jackson film is ramping up to its climax during these last few days, when a Hobbit will once again rule the world. I have friends too numerous to count who are going opening night. They won’t be the only ones. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has every possibility of breaking records given the success of The Lord of the Rings. The box office will be thrumming with more gold than Smaug’s treasure trove!
I am a bit worried about the movie. I love The Lord of the Rings but I feel like the last few Peter Jackson movies have been overwrought and under-edited.
Will The Hobbit suffer from these problems? Or will it be a tightly told tale to wow us for generations?
Despite my worries, I’ll be there opening night!
But, will you?
Will you be seeing The Hobbit on opening night?
I have been to numerous opening nights for many different movies. The fantasy / sci-fi movies are always the most fun. We geeks are happiest when we are celebrating our own culture.
And The Hobbit is most definitely that!

I’m not quite clear on why anyone who would have the chance to see it in the theater at least once would rather wait until it goes to DVD. I figure they have a better TV and/or movie setup than I do!
On the other hand, I’m more than a bit sore that no theater in my area is doing the LOTR marathon, so I could definitely be biased here. Last year I missed seeing The Fellowship on the big screen by one day. I was so hoping to spend tomorrow in Middle Earth, but it’s not to be
.
Nope, not seeing it opening night, I have passes to an early screening tonight!
Can’t. Wait!
