Mentats of Dune by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson has a cover!
The new entry in the Dune universe won’t see publication until Spring 2014 but the book now has a cover. As usual, Herbert and Anderson have written the book and are putting it through its numerous drafts, a part of their combined writing process that ensures the book is not only told in one voice but that they keep the tale true to the Frank Herbert universe.
From a recent March 2013 interview with Anderson, where he talks about the new book:
“Mentats is the second book (after Sisterhood of Dune) in a new trilogy set about 10,000 years before the original novel, Dune. It is about the formation of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood and the Mentats School. Mentats of Dune will be out next spring. Actually when the phone rang for this interview, I was editing page 100 out of page 651. Brian and I are in our fifth draft, and we will probably go through ten drafts or so until we get it all finalized.”
I have to say, the cover is stunning. Artist Stephen Youll did a fantastic job. The choice of color palette and the beautiful detail of the background creates a stunning science fiction cover that I’m sure Herbert and Anderson are pleased to have.
