Got Any Plans, NYC? Go See ‘Year Zero’ Author Rob Reid This Tuesday!

So say you’re in New York City and you’re got an interest in technology and copyright law…or maybe you’re just bored and looking for an opportunity to meet a super cool science fiction author and get a signed book. In either case, I’d like to recommend that you attend Year Zero author Rob Reid’s talk on copyright law at the New York University School of Law on April 30 at 6:00 PM.

Incidentally that’s also the day that Year Zero comes out in paperback. You haven’t read it? Wow. Okay, you’re in for a treat. Check it out:

Year Zero:

The entire cosmos has been hopelessly hooked on humanity’s music ever since “Year Zero” (1977 to us), when American pop songs first reached alien ears. This addiction has driven a vast intergalactic society to commit the biggest copyright violation since the Big Bang. The resulting fines and penalties have bankrupted the whole universe. We humans suddenly own everything-and the aliens are not amused.

Lawyer Nick Carter has just been tapped to clean up this mess before things get ugly, and he’s an unlikely galaxy-hopping hero: He’s scared of heights. He’s also about to be fired. And he happens to have the same name as a Backstreet Boy. But he does know a thing or two about copyright law and he may be the only thing standing between us and total destruction.

If you’re thinking that Reid knows a little something about music, royalties and copyright issues then you’d be right. He was one of the founders of Listen.com, a little online music company that became Rhapsody.com. If you’re looking for an insider’s perspective on copyrighting and the future of music, then Reid is a guy you should meet.

The event is presented by the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy. Space is limited, so if you want to go, you’ll need to register by April 26.

If you don’t live in New York City (It’s okay, I don’t either!) but still want to hear Rob Reid, don’t fret. You can check out his awesome TED talk!
