I had a great time. I was not officially part of it for Suvudu which meant I got to roam around at my leisure and see the convention just as a fan would.
I loved it. The people. The chaos. The cool shit everywhere. Like many who go, I was on the hunt for kick-ass swag. I found a lot of it. If you read my Top 5 2013 Comic Con Exclusives list, I had a few things to find. But when it comes to sheer geekery, finding something awesome just by chance feels like striking gold.
I did that just that. I struck gold.
And giddy geeky happiness in one moment.
I went to the Random House aisle. Here is a picture of their Young Adult publishing arm setup:
As you can see, there are some great books coming out later this year! I am a huge fan of those three authors. Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson is one of the most highly anticipated releases this year and Brandon was there promoting it. I also loved Fallen by Lauren Kate and The Maze Runner by James Dashner, so having these three authors on-site was awe-SOME! But what’s great for all of us is these writers are publishing new books in new series—a perfect place for everyone to jump in and try these amazing writers!
When I came across this booth, I had to have advance reader copies (ARCs) of these books. I got rebuffed. By the time I came by, they were out of the copies they would be giving away or they were holding onto the copies they would be giving away the next day during signings. I pouted. It didn’t work. I left empty-handed that day.
Thankfully, the next day, I lamented my great woe to one of the booth workers. He and I have known one another for years and he said, “I’ve got just the thing for you!”
He pulled out a metal box. He handed it over. It was heavy, heavier than people like to carry at Comic Con, that’s for sure. But it was well worth it.
Random House produced 2000 copies of this great promotional piece. Everyone was talking about it at the convention. I was lucky to snag one.
And even if TSA didn’t like it much, I got it home!
In the coming months, we will be featuring these three books a great deal on Suvudu. For now, get ready for them!
Because this fall is going to be awesome!
