At least it was. Now that Christmas is over and all of the major gift-giving religious holidays are finished, it’s time to talk about what books we received and are excited about.
For me, I made sure that Uncle Random House gifted me an advance copy of Red Rising by Pierce Brown. It is a dystopian science fiction novel that makes all of the young adult books in the same sub-genre look like cardboard. I am about halfway through it right now and I am feeling the same way as when I read The Lies of Locke Lamora and The Name of the Wind. Quite simply, genius between two book covers.
Other than that, I didn’t receive any books. I’m hard to buy for, having worked in the book industry for so long. My family and friends know my To Be Read pile has split into four larger ones now and I have no need for more books. Poppycock. I always want more books. It’s hard for them to know what I have and don’t have though.
I did receive an iPad Air to replace my first generational iPad that went kapoots. That was a huge gift. I read a lot of early manuscripts from publishers on my iPad so that helps my reading habits for 2014!
When it comes to other swag, I received a Patrick Rothfuss “chess” t-shirt from Worldbuilders. My mother knows me so well.
So what kind of books did you get? Anything else for the fun geek?
