Red Rising by Pierce Brown publishes in one week!
I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am about this release. I read the book several weeks ago at the behest of author Terry Brooks. Terry receives books to read from publishers looking for blurbs. As you can imagine, he is sent a great many books earlier than their publication date. Terry is very picky about what he blurbs though.
In short, the book has to be fantastic for him to give a quote.
This is the blurb that he gave Red Rising:
When Terry was finished with the book, he called me to talk about Red Rising. We are book people and when we find something we love… well… we share the news. He told me to get a copy at any cost. I immediately wrote Del Rey and asked for a review copy. They sent one.
I devoured it during the holiday break. I couldn’t put it down. I fell in love with Red Rising the same way I fell in love with The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Pierce Brown has an unusual turn of phrase that makes his writing an enjoyable experience. But it was the story of Darrow and Eo that I truly fell in love with, a relationship that leads to a clandestine war of epic and planetary consequences.
While Red Rising is a science fiction novel, it carries just enough fantasy elements to intrigue the most eager epic fantasy reader. GravBoots meet swords and arrows. It feels a lot like an adult Hunger Games, with characters that are beautifully crafted and real. It is a book of pain—because life is pain. It is a book of relationships—because life is about relationships. It is a book of love—because love is necessary to overcome the greatest evils.
In short, I loved it. I simply cannot wait for the sequel. I loved Red Rising so much that I reached out to Pierce Brown to conduct an online signing for the book on The Signed Page. You can view those details HERE.
